Monroe - Ruby Kay Schmitt, age 78, of Footville, WI, formerly of Monroe and Brodhead, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Manor, Footville. She was born on March 21, 1937 in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Ivan and Fern (Condon) Schmid. She married Jerry Schmitt on May 4, 1958. He passed away on May 17, 2015.
Kay grew up in Orfordville, graduated from Orfordville High School in 1955 and also attended UW-Whitewater. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Monroe and taught Sunday school. She was a homemaker and along with her husband, raised three children. Kay worked several jobs over the years and made many friends. Her favorite job was babysitting for several children. Kay was very proud of her four grandsons. In later years, Kay and Jerry enjoyed camping in their RV trailer.
She is survived by her three children, Steven (Julie) Schmitt, Juda, WI, Jeffrey (Tracy) Schmitt, Ponder, TX, Laurie (Troy) Hillin, Reno, NV; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Hillin, Ryan, Matthew and Brandon Schmitt; and sister, Ginger (Ed) Waddell, Janesville, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry and her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at the United Methodist Church, Monroe, WI, with Rev. Randy Booth officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, WI. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI.
