Age 84 of Monroe, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at St. Clare Friedensheim, Monroe. Joe was born July 29, 1927 on the Davis Home Farm in Spring Grove Township, the son of Guy and Bessie (Fehr) Davis. He graduated from Juda High School in 1944 and married Alberta Hartwig on March 16, 1950 in Monroe. Following their marriage, Joe and Alberta farmed in Spring Grove Township and Jefferson Township until retiring in 1997. They have resided at St. Clare Friedensheim since 2011. Joe was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe. He was an avid sports fan who especially followed the Chicago White Sox and Green Bay Packers. Joe played catcher during many of his years playing ball along with other family members. He also enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, reading, puzzles, and going out for Friday night supper followed by a good game of cards.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alberta Davis of Monroe; three brothers, Clyde (Margaret) Davis of Juda, Delton (Joan) Davis of Monroe, Dale (Katie) Davis of Juda; two sisters, Betty Borden of Seattle, Washington, and Mary Lou Nowatzki of Monroe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harold and Burton Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. William "Mike" Heath of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the church. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in his name for Monroe Clinic Hospice and St. John's United Church of Christ.
