Robert O. Kubly

Robert O. Kubly, age 82 of Monticello, died at his home on Sunday, May 29, 2016 following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Robert was born November 17, 1933 in Spring Grove Township, the son of Fredrick O. and Madeline (Pfister) Kubly. He married Shirley Schwartz on November 17, 1953 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Monroe. Following his marriage, Robert farmed with Shirley in Jordan Center and later was employed as a truck driver for Curry Brothers of Darlington and Paul Elzen Trucking before moving to Monticello in 1963. He then worked in construction for his brother-in-law, Clarence Blumer, before owning his own business, K&R Construction, for several years. He attended First Baptist Church in Monroe, was a member of the Rock County Thresheree and the Pecatonica Valley Antique Club.

Robert is survived by six children, Nancy (Steve) Guptill, Ron (Sharon) Kubly, Vicki (Rick) Bezik, all of Monroe, Deb (Nic) Wand of South Wayne, Roberta Kubly (Rich Scott) of Monroe, and Charlotte (Tim) Dubel of Brodhead; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Kubly of Spring Green; and a sister, Edith (Norman) Nall of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley, on April 9, 2014; a son, Donald in 1957; great-granddaughter, Sophia Kubly; three sisters, Dorothy Erickson, Zelma Blumer, and Lucille Runkle; and a half-brother, Gordon Kilday.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Blake Canterbury officiating. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Darlington, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe American Legion Post #84. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Robert's name.
