NEW GLARUS - Mr. Robert M. Hoesly, age 83, of New Glarus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. He was born on October 8, 1924, the son of Clarence J. and Amelia Schiesser Hoesly in New Glarus. Robert was a 1942 graduate of New Glarus High School and was the first Eagle Scout from New Glarus. On May 16, 1948 he was united in marriage to Olga Leiser from Monroe. He farmed on the family farm all of his life. Robert was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus and served as a consistory member. In 1970 he was elected to the Green County Board and served as chairman for 28 years. He also served on the New Glarus Town Board for over 40 years and the Bank of New Glarus Board of Directors for over 22 years. Robert served as a director of the Wisconsin Counties Association and the County Mutual Insurance Corporation. He also served on numerous agricultural and land conservation committees.

Survivors include his wife, Olga; son, Jim (Jody) Hoesly of New Glarus; daughters, JoAnn (Gary) Aebly of Verona and Mary (Reiner) Klawiter of Aspen Co.; grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Aebly, Melanie (Courtney) Corning, Timothy (Jessica) Aebly; Melissa Leib; Steffi and Katrina Klawiter; Michelle, Carolyn, and Jack Gibbs, and Milo Hoesly; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Payton Corning, Spencer Aebly; a sister, Lorene Benzel of Belvidere, IL.; and many friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Barbara Hoesly Leib.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus, WI with the close personal friend, Father Tom Campion officiating. Burial will be in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

He instilled his love for the farm in his children and grandchildren who enjoyed working side by side with him over the years. Throughout his life, he cherished his many personal relationships with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.
