Robert L. Kubly, age 96 of Monroe, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at his home. He was born June 1, 1913, in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of John Peter and Anna (Speich) Kubly.

He attended Greenbush and Richland country schools and graduated from Monroe High School in 1931. He married Carol Hanson on October 6, 1940, at the Jordan Lutheran Church. They were married over 64 years.

Robert worked on the family farm from 1931 until 1936. Then he worked for Hare Trucking hauling cheese from Monroe to Chicago. Later he worked for Lake Shire Marty in cold storage and was a licensed cheesemaker. For the next seven years he worked for Etter's Dry Goods. From 1953 until his retirement in 1978, Robert worked for Moorman Manufacturing as a sales representative.

He was a lifetime member of Monroe Moose Lodge. He was proud of his Swiss heritage and he enjoyed and participated in Monroe and Green County activities. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who also loved cars. He enjoyed following the Monroe Cheesemakers, Badgers and Packers. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren show cattle.

Robert is survived by a daughter, Donna (Nathan) Hartwig of Monroe; one son, Cutris (Ann) Kubly of Madison; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; a daughter, Bonnie Smith; a brother, Edward; and a sister, Silvia Speich.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME in Monroe with the Rev. David Busker of the Clarno United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established for Monroe Clinic Hospice or St. John's Friedensheim Assisted Living.
