BRODHEAD - Richard V. Markee, age 71, of Brodhead, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at his home with his loving family. He was born on January 17, 1936 in Madison, WI, the son of Leo and Opal (Stockdill) Markee. He married Alice M. Foslin on December 20, 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.

Richard attended Brodhead schools and received his high school diploma in the U.S. Navy. He entered the Navy on June 21, 1954 and was released from active service on March of 1958. He was honorably discharged on June 21, 1962 as an engineman, third class petty officer. He attended Beloit Vocational School in the early '60s, majoring in all phases of welding. He had worked at Varco Pruden, Evansville, WI, and was also a foreman and manager of Wisconsin Tank Tainer Division. He owned and operated Spring Valley Auto Body and Used Cars since 1977. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and Bicknell Masonic Lodge, all of Brodhead. He also was a member of the Mill Road Band, Brodhead.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; a son, Daniel Markee, Duluth, MN; a daughter, Brenda (John) Zigler, Janesville; special nephew, Dean (Terri) Abb, Brodhead; two sisters, Betty Christiansen, Martha Pramer, both of Beloit; two brothers, David (Judy) Markee, Beloit, Dean (Janice) Markee, Monroe; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Darlene Burdick, and a nephew, Terry Anderson.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Sandi Olson-Decker officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead with military rites. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2008, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD. A memorial fund will be established.
