Richard (Dick) Elwood Broge

Richard (Dick) Broge, age 82, of South Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Dick was born on February 27, 1932, the son of Fred and Lydia (Deeg) Broge. Dick joined the Air Force in 1951 and served his country honorably in England and Germany. On March 8, 1953, while on leave he married the love of his life Jean Marie Ott in Monroe, WI. Dick worked for Simmons Construction, Monroe, WI, and South Wayne Lumber Company after returning from the service. He then formed B&L Builders with his brother-in-law George LaGrange. Dick built many homes in the area and after retirement enjoyed spending his time building custom furniture. Dick was actively involved in his church, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in South Wayne, where he served as President and on the church council for many years.

Dick is survived by his wife Jean of 61 years and their 4 children; Michael (Jean) Broge of DeForest, WI, Steven (Arlene Freytag) of Monroe, WI, Thomas (Marta) Broge of New Berlin, WI, and Suzanne (Dennis Hagen) of South Wayne, WI. He is further survived by 9 grandchildren; Ryan, Aaron (Billie Ann) and Andrew Broge, Andi (Kevin Phillips) and Alex Broge, Josh Broge and Zack, Nick and Rachel Hagen, as well as 2 great grandchildren; Abigail and Lydia Broge; and his special brother-in-law and fishing partner Burnette Burkhalter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce LaGrange.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in South Wayne, with Rev. Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in South Wayne.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 28th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave., in Monroe.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to loving and supportive neighbor Pauline Mau and the Monroe Clinic Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Dick's memory.

The Hanson Funeral Home is serving the family.
