Richard "Butch" Garwell, age 77, of Monroe, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in Madison, WI. He was born on September 7, 1933 in Juda, Wisconsin the son of Ralph and Edna (Kolb) Garwell.Richard and Eva Mae Surrell were married on November 7, 1953 in Harristown, IL. He served in the U.S. Army, entering September 12, 1950 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was discharged September 22, 1953 at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He received the Korean Conflict Medal and National Defense Medal.

Richard drove truck for Craigo Grain and Roy's Dairy and later worked for the Brodhead Police Department . He also was a volunteer driver for The Apostolate to the Handicapped.

He was a former member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Richard "Andy"(Joyce) Garwell of Wisconsin Dells; Margaret "Liz"(David) Wilson of Monroe; Terry (Linda) Garwell of Monticello; Denise Lambrecht of Reedsburg; Brenda (Scott) Grossen and Donna (Kurt) Wyss both of Browntown; brother; Nathan (Donna) Garwell of Monroe; sister-in-law Judy Garwell of Minnesota; brother-in-law Tom (Kay) Surrell of Wisconsin; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eva; brother, Ralph.

A Celebration of Butch's Life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave. in Monroe., with Pastor Steve Hale officiating. Burial will follow at Michaels Cemetery, rural Browntown.

A visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 18 at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in Butch's memory.
