Randall Wubbena, 64, of Freeport, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at home. He was born on October 23, 1946 in Stephenson County, the son of Maurice and Lucille (Hake) Wubbena.
Randy attended Baileyville and Forreston Schools until the age of 16 when he started working full time at Thermos (Structo). He was employed there until the plant closed and during that time he earned his GED.
He married Sandra Kay Reynolds on September 25, 1976 at EUB Methodist Church in Monroe, WI.
Randy was working for Pearl City Coop, when in the spring fell ill with colon cancer that quickly spread to his liver.
Randy was a quiet, private man who fought a short, dignified battle against an overwhelming disease. All the while he was keeping his mind on daily chores, that needed doing and directing his neighbors Aaron and Anthony Gillingham and brother in law Ed Reynolds, from his window side chair and bed. He was always thinking of the next thing that needed doing and tried to force and advise his wife Sandy, on making some needed plans and choices for her future without him.
Randy was thankful for the genuine loving care he received from the hospice volunteers and staff the three plus weeks before his death, and especially for the companionship of his sister, Farida, during that time. Also appreciated, was family friend and hospice volunteer from Blanchardville, WI. Elaine Engelke, who spent time helping Sandy and Randy.
Randy is survived by his wife Sandy, and his very special cat, DC, who stayed by his side and slept with him in his hospital bed. He is also survived by his brother, Rodney (Sue) Wubbena of Savannah, his sisters, Farida Toepfer of Freeport, Sharyl (Bob) Folk of Pearl City, Sister in law Sue Patterson of Monticello, WI., brother in laws, John Reynolds of Monroe and Edward Reynolds (Cherrie) of Monroe and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Sunday, September 25, 4 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs Freeport. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at Burke-Tubbs Freeport.
There will be a simple burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens on Monday, September 26.
