Green County Sheriff

MONROE - On Wednesday Jan. 15:

• Chistopher R. Vandervalk, 20, Monroe, was arrested after deputies stopped his vehicle on Wis. 81 at 1:26 a.m. and found a warrant out for Vandervalk for failing to pay a fine on a speeding citation. He later posted bond and was released.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - On Wednesday, Jan. 15:

• Timothy Shippy, 29, Gratiot, was cited at 2:27 a.m. for operating after revocation of his license following a traffic stop on Main Street in Gratiot.

• A deputy assisted a motorist at 3:05 a.m. with unlocking their vehicle on Woodberry Road in Willow Springs Township.

• A deputy responded at 10:35 a.m. to School Street in the Village of Gratiot to check on the welfare of an individual.

• A deputy responded at 4:03 a.m. to Carr Factory Road in Benton Township to check the welfare of an individual.

• Kevin L. Thomas, 33, Apple River, Ill., reported hitting a deer at 5:32 a.m. on County W in New Diggings Township.

• A deputy responded at 8:13 a.m. to County K in Darlington Township for a report of livestock on the roadway.



Monroe Police

MONROE - On Wednesday, Jan. 15:

• Police were contacted at 12:02 p.m. by a 57-year-old Monroe man on the 300 block of 4th Street. The man said he had been having a Facebook relationship with another person claiming to be female, and to whom he had sent a check for travel expenses to come to Monroe. The man became suspicious when the check was not cashed so he canceled the check and the account. Investigation revealed that the female likely did not exist and the scam was being perpetrated in other locations.

• Police responded at 12:10 p.m. to the area of 15th Street and 13th Avenue for a report of a male and female arguing. There was no physical altercation and no arrests were made.

• Police received a report at 2:10 p.m. of a snow blower taken from a residence in the 2000 block of 9th Street.

• Police received a report at 7:14 p.m. from a female on the 800 block of 6th Street complaining that she was contacted by her bank advising her that persons unknown had opened a financial card account in her name without her consent. The account was frozen, and no funds were transferred. The complaint remains under investigation.
