DARLINGTON - A 16-year-old male Darlington High School student was arrested at about 11 a.m. Thursday at the high school for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The arrest was a result of a joint investigation conducted by school personnel and police personnel.
The student was transported from the school to the Lafayette County Jail. He was later released to parents pending future court proceedings.
Darlington Police Chief Jason King credits students from both the high school and middle school who learned of the illegal activity and came forward to report it to school officials, thus prompting the investigation, he said.
"Thanks to the great students we have here within the Darlington Community School District, would-be drug dealers stand little chance of ever being able to establish a market within the school setting, and for that we are grateful," King said.
