Phillip F. Clawson, age 77 of Ferryville and formerly of Edgerton, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Gundersen-Lutheran in LaCrosse. He was born on November 17, 1932 in Woodstock, Ill to Forrest and Bessie (Churchill) Clawson. He graduated from Milton college in 1954 and was united in marriage to Helen Rae (Gessert) on July 6, 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and had worked for Edgerton Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1995. Following retirement, Phillip continued to enjoy his passions of hunting and fishing by moving with Helen Rae to the Ferryville area.
In addition to his wife, Helen Rae, he is survived by two daughters: Rae Lucinda (Michael) Wellnitz of Monroe and Sarah (David) Spenle of Colfax; five grandchildren: Melissa (Michael) McTavish, Julie (Matt) Fleischman, Amy Wellnitz, Rachel Wellnitz and Hunter Spenle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin daughters.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main Street in DeSoto.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Ehlert Funeral Home in Edgerton. Pastor Roy Poltrock will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Fassett Cemetery. Friends may also call at the Ehlert Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m.
