JANESVILLE - Paul K. Ranum, age 81, of Janesville, died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center. He was born on April 6, 1929, the son of William and Gladys (Jennings) Ranum. He served in the Merchant Marines in the 1940's, and married Leona "Lea" E. Ueland in 1954. Together they had five children, and moved to Janesville in November of 1957. Lea and Paul founded L & P Tree Service in 1958, with a pick up and a chain saw; which has been operated for 3 generations today by their son, Chris and grandson, Jon. Paul married Alice Vaade and she preceded him in death in 1997. He married Donna Hendrickson Schindler on Nov. 1, 2000. Paul was a volunteer, delivering Meals on Wheels, as well as driving shut-ins for Rock County. He loved his dogs, Bonnie and Clyde, and especially his family.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Hendrickson Schindler; 6 children: Gary (Patsy) Ranum, Debra (Thomas) Maher, Paula Ranum Schutt, Mark Trevor (partner Craig Bodoh) Ranum, Chris (Cindy) Ranum and Curtis (Kris Bendorf) Ranum; 12 step children: Roger Vaade, Dennis (Faye), Duane (Deb), Daryl (Kathy), Douglas (Patti), Dale and Daniel (Penny) Schindler, Debra (Fred) Thommen, Diane Samelstad, Denise (Ward Sr.) Steinmann, Danette (Derek) Williams and Dawn (Ted) White; 38 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 3 brothers and 3 sisters in Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 former spouses; son, Timothy in 1960; 2 great grandchildren, Daniel and Troy; and stepfather, Joseph Dadey.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Craig Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME.
