Nora A. Rubi, age 104, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at her home. She was born on February 12, 1905, in Jordan Township, the daughter of Andrew N. and Ida Amelia (Jackson) Anderson. She was a 1924 graduate of Monroe High School and attended Madison Business College. Nora and Samuel A. Rubi were married on September 20, 1933 at St. John's United Church of Christ.
Nora was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, St. Omar Chapter #90, member of the Amaranthy, and advisor for the Rainbow Girls. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, former council member, a Sunday school teacher for many years and member of the Church guilds. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #84, and the Sons of Norway. She worked for The Swiss Colony for many years. Nora's devotion focused on her family, home, church and to her job, with an old fashioned work ethic. She did excellent needlework, all of these things prior to her failing vision due to Macular Degeneration.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen R. May of Colorado Springs, Colorado; granddaughters, Elizabeth Lang of Evanston, Illinois, Christiana (Jay) Wiebbecke of Boone, Iowa; sister, Janet Anderson of Prairie du Sac; brother, Gene Anderson of Cassville; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Samuel; daughter, Elaine Lang; sisters, Mabel Anderson, Esther Stelter, Ruth Krebs, Alice Mani; brothers, George, Franklin, Charles, James, Morgan, Norman, Floyd, Harry and Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Officiating will be her niece, Rev. Kay E. Krebs, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A visitation will be held on Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
