NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus Police Department presented Desyra D. Ott, 18, New Glarus, and Ryan J. Pelletier, 22, Monticello, with Certificates of Appreciation for their roles Dec. 5 during a house fire on Fifth Avenue.
Ott and Pelletier initially investigated the smell of smoke and, after discovering the house was on fire, notified emergency services and woke the family, who were able to escape the home without injury.
"The actions taken by Ms. Ott and Mr. Pelletier prevented more extensive damages than might have been sustained to the residence and may have saved the lives of those in the home," New Glarus Police Chief Steven G. Allbaugh said.
"Our thanks go to Desyra and Ryan for their quick thinking and heroic actions," he said.
