Neil J. Rufer age 60, of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 15, 2011 at his home. He was born on July 4, 1950, the son of Emil and Esther (Bolliger) Rufer. Neil graduated from Juda High School in 1968, and was employed by R R Donnelley for 42 years. Neil married Marilyn Derendinger on June 10, 2001 in LasVegas, NV. Neil enjoyed riding his motorcycle, bowling, watching the Green Bay Packers; but most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Monroe; his mother, Esther Rufer of Monroe, two daughters, Laura (Mark) Westphal of Belleville and Miranda (Todd) Christen of Monroe; step-daughter, Samantha Murray of Brodhead; grandchildren, Austin and Owen; and step-grandchildren: Tim, Tad, and Tashia; 2 half brothers, Gerald and Jon Rufer of Monticello; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Derendinger. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, David and a sister, Susan Rufer, and his father-in-law, Robert Derendinger.
Private services will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke funeral home, with Reverend David Busker officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
