Mary Lane Lysser passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at age 80 with her loving family at her bedside.
A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe. A memorial service for Mary Lane will follow on Wednesday, at the church. Inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, WI.
The former Mary Lane Lenacher was born on December 17, 1927, in Monroe, WI, to the late R.H. and Marjorie (Fritz) Lenacher. On June 10, 1946 she was united in marriage with William H. Lysser in Dubuque, Iowa. She graduated from Monroe High School and later when managing the Monroe Credit Bureau, attended Indiana University. Mary Lane and Bill lived most of their married life along with raising two children in Monroe. After becoming Arizona Sun birds they retired there for fifteen years and recently returned to Wisconsin. Mary Lane held many positions while working in Monroe, being a "career" woman ahead of her time. She especially enjoyed her position in advertising with the Monroe Evening Times. She felt Monroe was a great place to live and work and was devoted to promoting it to others. Mary Lane served as the President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1979. She and Bill volunteered both prior to and following her presidency, often helping out with events as well as acting as chaperones to the Cheese Day queens that represented Monroe across the state.
Mary Lane was devoted to her family, which was precious to her having lost her own mother at age 5 and then was raised by her grandparents. She specialized in family celebrations and was always planning family trips. Being a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and singing in the Sanctuary Choir with her husband were important to her. Mary Lane was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She liked being with people and her family and friends will remember Mary Lane and Bill on the dance floor, something they loved doing even well into retirement. While living in Paradise Park in Arizona she actively welcomed newcomers to the park, helping others, organizing events, attending costume parties, and dancing.
Mary Lane is survived by her husband, Bill Lysser, Horicon; her daughter, Vikki Lane (Thomas) Kunstman, Beaver Dam; a grandson, Jonathan William Kunstman, Tallahassee, FL; her dear friends, including Evelyn and Dick Vevia, Sun City, AZ, nieces, and a nephew, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, David.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Mary Lane's name to Hillside Hospice, 707 S. University Ave., Beaver Dam, WI, 53916, or to St. John's United Church of Christ, 1724 14th St., Monroe, WI, 53556.
