Mary L. Gille, age 90 of Darlington, WI, formerly of South Wayne, WI, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington.

Mary L. Gille, age 90 of Darlington, WI, formerly of South Wayne, WI, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born October 3, 1919, on the family farm in Wiota Township, Lafayette County, WI, the daughter of Oscar and Mary (Erickson) Jacobson. Mary was the youngest of nine children. On September 25, 1935, she was united in marriage to Orville C. Gille in Blanchardville, WI. She lived and farmed with her husband in Gratiot and Wiota Townships most of her life. In 1997, they retired and moved to South Wayne, WI.

Mary is survived by one son: Jerry (Jean) Gille of Monroe, WI; one daughter: Janet (Jim) McDonald of rural Gratiot, WI; eight grandchildren: Sheila Probert, Rick McDonald, Dave McDonald, Marla McDonald, Vickie Kniepp, Cindy Blankenship, Gaila Hilliard, and Marsha Hobson; 21 great-grandchildren, Allison and Matthew Probert, Carter, Carley, Brayden, and Brenna McDonald, Cole, Bailey, and Bethany McDonald, Marcel and Jean Roch Leger, Leah, David, Annie, and Blake Kniepp, Hannah and Adam Hobson, Jackson and Alec Blankenship, and Alexis and Sydney Hilliard. She was preceded in death by her husband: Orville on February 23, 1998; one son: Carl Chris Gille in infancy; four sisters: Edna Kammerud, Stella Wilson, Luella Connolly, and Lucille Miller; four brothers: Morgan, Carl, Floyd, and Sylvestor Jacobson.

Mary was a member of Wiota Lutheran Church and its Women of ELCA. She was a past Sunday school teacher. Mary enjoyed making quilts, gardening, fishing, riding horses, traveling, and playing the piano and organ by ear. She also enjoyed playing with her dog, Tasha. Mary will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at Wiota Lutheran Church, 6682 State Road 78, rural Wiota, WI, with Rev. Luke S. Smetters officiating. Burial will be in West Wiota Cemetery in Gratiot Township, WI. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington.
