Mary Jane Pickett, 82, of Beloit, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, August 04, 2009, in Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born August 24, 1926 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of John and Mary (Ewart) Crowley. Mary was a 1944 graduate of Beloit High School and employed in her early years by Beloit Corporation and her brother, Jack Crowley Auto Parts. She married Gaylord C Pickett on May 19, 1950. He predeceased her on Monday, February 21, 2000.
Throughout her life, Mary was a very active member of River of Life United Methodist Church, their choir and bell choir, the Laureate Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a Beloit Memorial Hospital volunteer, and delivered Meals on Wheels. Mary was a devoted mother to her three sons and extended that love as her family grew. Some of her favorite memories came from watching her grandchildren participate in activities such as basketball, baseball, football, band choir and show choir. She also enjoyed rooting for her favorite Wisconsin teams, the Packers and the Badgers. Mary and Gay also loved to travel the country in their motor home with her family and friends.
Mary is survived by her three sons, Butch (Joanne) Pickett of Beloit, WI, Terry (Janet) Pickett of Onalaska, WI and Steven (Tammy) Pickett of Beloit, WI; seven grandchildren, Joseph, Jeffrey, Kelly, Kimberly, Kevin, Shawn and Devon Pickett; brother, Jack (Janet) Crowley of South Beloit, IL, sister, Janet (Carl) Sisk of Clinton, WI and a sister-in-law, Isabel Crowley of Beloit, WI; and her beloved dog, Cody; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary loved her family and especially her grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Gaylord, and a brother, Michael Crowley.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2009 in the Schoenfeld-Mark Funeral Home, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, WI with the Reverend Forrest Clark of River of Life United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Beloit. Friends may call Friday from 12:00 noon until time of service in the funeral home. Memorials may be given in her name to Meals on Wheels.
