Mary Alice DeBruin, age 82 of Brodhead, formerly of Monroe, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Mary Alice was born April 28, 1929 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Koenig) Collins.
She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Chicago and attended Chicago State University. She married William G. DeBruin on August 10, 1948 in Chicago. They operated a dairy farm in Sylvester Township from 1970 until 1991. Mary Alice continue to live on the farm until moving to Woods Crossing Nursing Home in Brodhead in 2007.
She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe, a former board member of St. Vincent DePaul, and enjoyed flowers, gardening, and birds.
She is survived by seven children, Kathleen Hayes of New Glarus, Gerrit (Lorrie) DeBruin of Lake Mills, Maureen DeBruin of Jefferson, William (Vicki) DeBruin Jr. of Twin Falls, Idaho, Eileen (Michael) MacIsaac of Bristol, WI, Grant (Katie) DeBruin of Johnson Creek, WI, and Shireen (Jeff) Steinke of Rock City, IL; and 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William on April 17, 2001; and two brothers, Harry and Eddie Collins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 18, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe. Celebrant will be Father Michael Klarer with interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe.
