Marvin R. Marty, age 92 of Monticello, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Collinwood Elderly Care in Brodhead.
Marvin was born in rural Monticello on January 15, 1920, the son of John C. and Alma (Rufer) Marty.
He graduated from Monticello High School in 1937 and married Ida S. Bardahl on June 17, 1950 in Monticello.
Marvin was a lifelong farmer. He farmed in Mt. Pleasant Township until 1980 and then worked as a sales consultant for Midwestern Bio-Ag until age 85.
He was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, and enjoyed polka dancing on Sunday afternoons at Turner Hall.
He is survived by three children, Nathan (Sandy) Marty of Monticello, Sonja (Clark) Bennett of Mt. Pleasant, TN, and Melody Marty of Monroe; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Marty of Albany; a sister-in-law, Ruth Marty of Monticello; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida, on Dec. 1, 2007; a brother, Hans Marty; and a sister, Julia Keegan.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Marvin's name.
