VALPARAISO, IN - Marilyn Turner, age 84 passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso Indiana. She was born in Taylorville, IL on October 15, 1931 to Homer and Edith Brents (nee Hoyt). She was a graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL with an Education degree and taught Home Economics in Kankakee, Illinois. Marilyn and Donald resided in Kankakee, Illinois for 37 years and retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas in 1997. In 2013 they moved to Valparaiso, Indiana to be closer to their children.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 63 years, Donald Turner and their three daughters, Sue (Tom) Beach of Burlington, WI, Karen (Richard) Vogelsang of Valparaiso, IN and Wendy (Charlie) Baumann of Monroe, WI. In addition, she has 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Beach, Austin (Kristen) Vogelsang, Lauren Vogelsang, Kelley Marilyn Baumann, Nick Baumann and 3 great grandchildren Harper and Adley Vogelsang and Mason Beach-Gray.

Marilyn was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kankakee, IL. She was a professional volunteer who dedicated her time to helping others. She enjoyed golfing at the Kankakee Country Club where she was a member of the women's golf league as well as a member of the social committee where she planned many events. Crafts, decorating and entertaining friends made her happy. Her home was always open. In Hot Springs, AR, she participated in many clubs, bunco group, boating on Lake Coronado and made many friends at the dog park. She was an active member in the Kirk of the Pines Presbyterian Church where she sang in the church choir, served on the Fellowship Committee and led their Shepherd Group.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Kankakee, IL on Tuesday, December 22 at 1:00 pm followed by a gathering at the Kankakee Country Club at 2:30 pm. All are welcome to attend the celebration of Marilyn's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to VNA Hospice Center of Valparaiso, IN or one's charity of choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Linert, the Porter Hospital ICU staff, and the compassionate care givers of the VNA Hospice Center. Marilyn continued her giving spirit through her anatomical gift to the Indiana University School of Medicine.
