GRATIOT - Marian R. Stietz, age 76 of Gratiot, WI, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe, WI. She was born on March 31, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Valentine and Luella (Fagan) Plein. On October 16, 1951, Marian married Joseph L. Stietz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubuque.
Joseph preceded her in death on July 23, 1983. Together, Joseph and Marian farmed in Gratiot all of their married life. Marian was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gratiot and of its Council of Catholic Women.
Marian is survived by her 12 children: JoAnn (William) Kohl of Shullsburg, Ralph (Jeanne) Stietz of Gratiot, Phillip Stietz of New Diggings, James (Irene) Stietz of Gratiot, Diane (Richard) Krebs of Monroe, Susan (James) Minkie of Monroe, Gary (Laura) Stietz of Monroe, Sandra (Douglas) Bessert of Lena, Illinois, Karen (Mark) Garrison of Darlington, Linda (Tim) Meylor of Darlington, Patrick (Becky) Stietz of Argyle, and Gerald (Darlene) Stietz of Browntown; a son-in-law, Mark (Vickie) Bredeson of Monroe; 27 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Charles Plein and Clem Plein, both of Dubuque; and in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother; her husband, Joseph; her daughter, Ruth, on October 4, 1991; two grandsons, Jeremy in 1983 and Benjamin in 1992; her sister, Shirley Vosberg; and two brothers, William and Richard Plein.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Gratiot, WI, with Fr. David Wanish officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2008 at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Gratiot where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. The Steil Camacho Funeral Home, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI, is serving the family.
