MONROE/SUN PRAIRIE - Mardelle Kathryn (Freitag) Quest, affectionately known as Marty, age 83, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Sun Prairie, on Monday, August 15, 2011, after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Marty was born on April 20, 1928 in Monroe, the daughter of Terrance and Freida (Luchsinger) Freitag. She grew up in and around Green County where her parents farmed and was a 1946 graduate of New Glarus High School. After graduation, her love of adventure took her to Madison for a short time and then west to Cut Bank and Billings Montana. It was in Montana where she met Loren (Lonnie) Everett Quest, whom she married in 1953. After returning to New Glarus and the birth of their child, they divorced in 1961.

Marty and Terri moved to Monroe in 1961 and she raised Terri on her own as a single parent. She was a strong and smart woman with a great sense of humor, ahead of her time in many ways. It was her attention to detail and strong organizational skills that landed her a job at the Monroe Clinic. Marty loved Monroe and was a life long resident. She was always an outdoor enthusiast and had many hobbies and interests which included reading, drawing, bird watching, bowling and golf, fishing, gardening, travel, and playing cards. She was a great cook and so enjoyed entertaining family and friends. After a long and fulfilling career at the Monroe Clinic, she retired in 1990 as an Administrative Assistant for Accounting and Statistics after more than 28 years of service. During retirement she enjoyed traveling around the state with friends on golf outings, visiting family, learning the game of bridge and playing often with her friends. She remained active up until her illness.

Marty is survived by her daughter Terri (Mike) Gill of Sun Prairie; granddaughter Carrie (Pat) Mess of Watertown; sister Carolyn McNary, of Dayton, Washington; brother Alan(Jean) Freitagof Verona; sister-in-law Molly Freitag, of Belleville; several cousins; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews, and dear friends.

Marty was preceded in death by her parents Terrance and Freida, brother Harold Freitag, and brother-in-law William McNary.
