MONROE - A 32-year-old Monroe man was jailed late Monday, April 29, after authorities say he hit a parked vehicle, injuring a man, then continued driving intoxicated toward Juda.

Jose Alejandro Olmos Landa faces a first-offense charge of driving while intoxicated and a criminal charge of hit-and-run. The hit-and-run charge will be a misdemeanor or felony offense, depending on the severity of the victim's injuries. He was also cited for driving without vehicle insurance.

Olmos Landa reportedly sideswiped a legally parked vehicle in the 2700 block of 8 1/2 Street at about 9:30 p.m. as Gilberto Mazanett, Monroe, stood in the opened driver's side door of the vehicle.

Mazanett, 42, was taken by ambulance to Monroe Clinic for treatment of his injuries.

Police say Olmos Landa then fled the scene, continuing out of Monroe on Wisconsin 11 toward Juda. He got past Juda, near County OK, when a deputy noticed a "heavily damaged" vehicle traveling suspiciously slow on the highway, about 30 mph.

The deputy arrested Olmos Landa for driving while under the influence of alcoholic beverages, then turned him over to Monroe police for a mandatory blood draw and to get booked into jail on the hit-and-run charge.

Olmos Landa remains jailed. State circuit court records show no criminal record for him, just two minor traffic citations from 2010 and earlier this year.
