DARLINGTON - A Darlington man faces multiple charges of felony theft and burglary from homes and businesses in Green and Lafayette counties over a two- to three-year period.

Steven B. DeVoe, 41, was arrested Thursday, Nov. 10 by the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.

Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley said the case unfolded after Patrol Sgt. Daric Heim observed DeVoe's vehicle pulling a trailer with a skid steer loader on it; the next day, Nov. 8, the sheriff's department received a report of a stolen skid steer. The department also received information from a citizen who helped tie the suspect to the stolen skid steer.

As a result of the arrest, two skid steer loaders, one all terrain vehicle, one riding lawn mower, one trailer and several hand tools that were reported stolen in Lafayette County were seized. Two trailers, two ATVs, one motorcycle and one riding lawn tractor that were reportedly stolen from Green County were also seized.

Pedley said some of the stolen items have been sold on the Craigslist website and detectives believe DeVoe has more stolen property that has not been sold.

DeVoe is suspected in cases going back as far as year 2007. Detectives are investigating additional stolen property sold by DeVoe, Pedley said. Anyone who has purchased property from DeVoe in the last three years is asked to call Det. Jerrett Cook at (608) 776-4870.
