Lucille E. "Lucy" Gruetzman age 78 of Monroe, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Lucy was born October 27, 1935 in Watertown, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Walter and Esther Gillis. She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1952. Lucy married Edward "Eddie" Gruetzman on April 18, 1954 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cold Spring, WI. Lucy and her family have been residents of Green County since 1963. For many years she worked with her husband in the auction and real estate business and retired from the Department of Land Conservation in 1987. Lucy's special interests included sewing, making pies, volunteer work, and her love of family and friends. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe.
She is survived by two daughters, Denise (Jerald) McCall of Madison, and Jacqueline Gruetzman of Monroe; two granddaughters, Nicole (Andrew) Josephs and Kimberly (Jacob) Soden, both of Monroe; three great grandchildren, Madeline Lucille "Maddie" Josephs, Nathan Edward "Buddy" Josephs, and Michael Keith "Little Love" Soden; two sisters, Betty Smillie of Fort Atkinson, and Evelyn Herbert of Watertown; brother-in-law, Bill (Karen) Gruetzman of Harford; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie, in 2002; great-granddaughter, Amelia Anne Josephs; and brothers, Robert, Marvin, and Delbert Kucken.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 11:00 A.M., at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, with Rev. Todd Hackman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Lucy's name. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
