Lafayette County Sheriff

On January 15:

● 10:20 a.m. A deputy responded to Prairie RD, Seymour Township for a vehicle in the ditch. 

On January 16:

● 4:54 p.m. Darlington Fire and Lafayette County EMS responded to Sunset CT, City of Darlington for an outlet fire. Darlington Police assisted on scene. 

● 5:42 p.m. A deputy responded to Dublin RD, Darlington Township for an accident. Kerry L Lattin, 46, Darlington reported striking a horse. Minor injuries reported with no transport to the hospital. Lattin’s 2011 Chrysler received disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

On January 17:

● 12:07 a.m. Benton Fire and First Response responded to CTH Q, New Diggings Township for a house fire. Hazel Green EMS, Shullsburg Fire, and Cuba City Fire assisted on scene. The residence was a total loss.

● 9:27 a.m. A deputy responded to USH 151, Belmont Township for a one vehicle accident. Claire B Spilde, 19, Stoughton was traveling southbound when she swerved to miss a snowplow. Spilde struck a bridge and overturned down the embankment. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle was towed from the scene with disabling damage. 

● 10:08 a.m. A deputy responded to Hammer RD, Gratiot Township for a minor two vehicle accident. Jennifer K Hinrichs, 38, Gratiot was backing out of a driveway in her 2017 Jeep when she struck a tractor, driven by Peter A Whitcomb, 54, Gratiot. Both parties were uninjured, and the vehicles received minor damage and were driven from the scene. Hinrichs was cited for No Insurance and Failure to Yield the Right of Way.

● 11:37 a.m. A deputy responded to CTH J, Benton Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 11:38 a.m.  A deputy responded to CTH G, Belmont Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 9:41 p.m. Platteville Fire responded to W Mound RD, Belmont Township for a fire. A deputy and Belmont Fire and Cuba City Fire assisted on scene.

On January 18:

● 2:02 a.m. A deputy responded to USH 151, Kendall Township for a one vehicle accident. Jiaying Yan, 20, Grinnell, IA lost control of her vehicle and struck a guard rail. Yan denied injuries and her 2022 Toyota received disabling damage and was towed from the scene. As a result, Yan was cited for Failure to Keep Vehicle Under Control.

● 2:19 p.m.  A deputy responded to Oak Park RD, Kendall Township for theft.

● 8:19 p.m. A deputy responded to E North ST, City of Darlington for a wanted person. As a result, Gregory R Sporle, 54, Darlington was arrested on a valid Iowa County Warrant. Custody of Sporle was transferred to Iowa County Sheriff’s Office. 

● 10:29 p.m.  South Wayne First Response, South Wayne Fire, Green County EMS, and Lafayette County EMS responded to STH 11, Wayne Township for a two vehicle accident. Hannah M Martin, 34, Machesney Park, IL was traveling on STH 11 in a 2003 Ford when she struck an oncoming 2015 Chevrolet driven by Randall R Heller, 59, Stockton, IL. Hannah and her passenger, Jeremiah S King, 21, Machesney Park, IL were transported to the hospital with injuries. Martin’s 2003 Ford as well as Heller’s 2015 Chevrolet received disabling damage and were towed from the scene. A deputy assisted on scene. 

On January 19:

● 1:02 a.m.  A deputy responded to CTH P, Gratiot Township for a one vehicle accident. Nancy L Brewer, 43, Stockton was traveling on CTH P where she slid through a stop sign and went into the ditch. Brewer denied injuries and her 2012 Red Nissan received disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

● 3:53 a.m. A deputy responded to CTH B, Wayne Township for a vehicle in the ditch. 

● 5:35 a.m. A deputy responded to STH 126, Elk Grove Township for a vehicle in the ditch. 

● 9:00 a.m. Belmont Fire Department, Belmont EMS, and Platteville Fire Department responded to CTH X, Belmont Township for a shed fire. 

● 9:44 a.m. Riley J Gobrecht, 18, Shullsburg reported striking a parked 2016 Ford while plowing snow with his 2004 Ford. No injuries were reported. Both vehicles received minor damage.

● 5:12 p.m. A deputy responded to Bean Street RD, New Diggings Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

On January 20:

● 3:36 a.m. Thomas L Golackson, 64, Argyle reported striking a deer on W Milwaukee ST, Village of Argyle. No injuries were reported. Golackson’s 2005 Dodge received minor damage and was driven from the scene.

● 9:26 a.m. A deputy responded to S State ST, Village of Argyle for a hit and run.

● 10:01 a.m. Sherril L Pecor, 65, Dekalb reported striking a deer on STH 78, Argyle Township. No injuries were reported. Pecor’s 2017 Buick received minor damage and was driven from the scene. 

● 7:10 PM Brooklyn L Strang, 21, Shullsburg reported striking a deer on County Shop RD, Darlington Township. No injuries reported. Strang’s 2011 Dodge received minor damage and was driven from the scene. 

● 10:41 PM A deputy responded to S Broad ST, Village of Argyle for a hit and run. 


Green County Sheriff

On February 10:

● At 6:21 a.m., Deputies located a single vehicle crash in the N4100 block of Benkert Road, in the Town of Monroe. Investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by Jayden M. Baumgartner, 21 of South Wayne, was traveling northbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle then entered the north ditch and collided with a utility pole. Baumgartner sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Investigation resulted in Baumgartner being cited for Operating While Under the Influence (1st) and Operating Too Fast for Conditions. Baumgartner was released to a responsible party pending court.

● At 7:13 p.m., Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding in the W3800 block of State Highway 11, in the Town of Sylvester. Investigation resulted in the operator, Joey A.Leu, 59 of Monroe, being cited for Operating After Revocation (due to alcohol). Leu was released pending court.

On February 16:

● At 6:01 a.m., Deputies responded to the W3800 blk of CTH W, Town of Exeter, for a one vehicle accident. Investigation found that a vehicle operated by, James E. Markhardt, 16, of Belleville, was traveling eastbound when he hit slush and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle spun and he entered the north ditch backwards. The passenger side of the truck struck a power pole. There was only superficial damage to the pole. Markhardt advised he was not injured and was wearing his seatbelt. The airbags did not deploy. The vehicle sustained functional damage and was towed from the scene.

● At 4:30 p.m., Deputies responded to the P&P Office to take custody of Kyle B Disch, 39, of Albany on a probation hold.  Disch was transported to the Green County Jail.

On February 18:

● At 12:39 p.m., Deputies responded to the N200 block of Hartman Rd., in the Town of Spring Grove, for a domestic disturbance.   The investigation resulted in Jamie L. Splinter, 38, of Brodhead, being placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct, Battery, and Criminal Damage to Property, all falling under the Wisconsin Domestic Abuse law.  Wisconsin Department of Corrections also placed a Probation Hold on Splinter.   Splinter was later incarcerated at the Green County Jail pending an initial court appearance. 

● At 5:43 p.m., Deputies responded to the 300 block of N. Mechanic St., in the Village of Albany, for a reported incident of a bond condition violation.  The investigation resulted in Eric A. Calkins, 37, of Albany, being placed under arrest for Felony Bail Jumping.  Calkins was later incarcerated at the Green County Jail pending an initial court appearance.  

On February 23:

● At 5:43 a.m., Deputies responded to the N5700 block of State Highway 69, in the Town of Washington for the report of a two-vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by Adam E. Niffenegger, 41 of Monroe, was traveling northbound when a second vehicle attempted to pass Niffenegger. The passing vehicle side swiped Niffenegger’s vehicle and left the scene. Niffenegger reported no injuries, was wearing his seatbelt, and the airbags did not deploy. Niffenegger’s vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

On February 25:

● At 8:27 PM, Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding (96 MPH in a 55 MPH zone) in the N6200 block of STH 59, in the Town of Albany.  The investigation resulted in the driver, Dylan R. Wittenwyler, 27, of Albany, being arrested for Operating While under the Influence (first offense). Wittenwyler was further cited for Operating with a Prohibited Alcohol Concentration (greater than .15), Possession of Open Intoxicants, and Speeding.  Wittenwyler was later released to a responsible party pending court.  

On February 26:

● At approximately 11:23 a.m., Deputies responded to the 2800 block of 6th St, Probation and Parole Office, City of Monroe, to take Daniel E Bliss, 43, of Monroe, into custody for a probation/parole violation. Bliss was incarcerated at the Green County Jail.

On February 27:

● At 3:43 p.m., Deputies responded the 2800 block of 6th St. (Probation & Parole Office), in the City of Monroe, to take Otis P. Riedel, 25, of Albany, into custody for a Probation/Parole Violation. Riedel was later incarcerated at the Green County Jail.


Monroe Police

On February 14:

● At 8:18 a.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle accident with no reported injuries at the intersection of 20th Avenue and 7th Street. The investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Valeria Ruiz Valerio, 26, of Monroe, was traveling west on 7th Street, stopped at the stop sign at 20th Avenue, then entered the intersection, colliding with a vehicle southbound on 20th Avenue, operated by Dorothy H. Mockenhaupt, 58, of Monticello. Both vehicles sustained functional damages and were towed. Valerio was cited for operating without a valid driver’s license and failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign. Valerio was released pending a court appearance.

On February 17:

● At 10:29 p.m., officers arrested Mark W. Scott, 66, of Monroe, in the 1800 block of 12th Street, on a charge of felony bail jumping due to a violation of bail conditions from a prior case prohibiting alcohol consumption. Scott was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and placed on a probation hold by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections-Probation & Parole. Scott was confined in the Green County Jail pending further proceedings.

On February 18:

● At 3:19 a.m., officers arrested Harol W. Iglesias Bustillo, 25, of Monroe, following a traffic offense stop in the 2200 block of 6th Avenue. Iglesias Bustillo was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-2nd offense, and also cited for operating without a valid driver’s license, display of false registration, operating without insurance, and operating without stop lamps. Iglesias Bustillo was booked and released to a responsible adult pending a court appearance.

On February 21:

● At 12:01 p.m., officers were called to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident with injuries at the intersection of 16th Avenue and 13th Street. The investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Samantha J.S. Goodman,23, of Monroe, was traveling east on 13th Street, and struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk at 16th Avenue. The pedestrian was identified as Wendy J. Dyrhaug,46, of Belleville. Dyrhaug reported injuries but declined medical transport. Goodman’s vehicle sustained minor damages and was driven from the scene. Goodman was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and released pending a court appearance.
