Monroe Police

On January 31: 

● At 2:30 p.m., officers on a separate call in the 2200 block of 12th Street located a person wanted on an arrest warrant. David C. Kraft,47, of Monroe, was arrested on an arrest warrant issued by the Green County Sheriff’s Office. Kraft was confined in the Green County Jail pending a court appearance.

On February 1:

● At 11:06 a.m., officers conducted a traffic offense stop in the 1500 block of 16th Street. The investigation led to the arrest of the vehicle driver, Catlin C. Wiese, 36, of Monroe, on an arrest warrant issued by the Green County Sheriff’s Office. Wiese was also cited for operating while suspended, and confined in the Green County Jail pending a court appearance. 

● At 3:21 PM, officers were called to a two-vehicle accident with no reported injuries at the intersection of 19th Avenue and 11th Street. The investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Stacey L. Shepherd,  55, of Monroe, was traveling north on 19th Avenue, failed to stop for a stop sign, entered the intersection and collided with a vehicle operated by Mary Richardson, 73, of Monroe. Both vehicles sustained disabling damages and were towed. Shepherd was cited for failure to stop for a stop sign and for operating without insurance, and released pending a court appearance.

On February 2:

● At 1:26 a.m., officers arrested Indya C. Pierre, 34, of New Glarus, following a traffic offense stop in the 2000 block of 4th Street. Pierre was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-1st offense, and also cited for failure to signal turn and improper stop at a stop sign. Pierre was booked and later released pending a court appearance.

● At about 2:54 p.m., Monroe Police investigated a report of fatal motor vehicle accident, involving a truck striking a pedestrian in a business parking lot. The Green County Coroner has released the name of the person who was tragically, fatally injured. According to the investigation so far, the fatally injured person was Carmen E. Hale, 28, of Monroe. Ms. Hale was apparently walking in an employee parking lot of a business after a work shift at 1127 7th Avenue in Monroe, and was struck by a truck which was backing up, operated by Cole D, Syvrud, 27, of Argyle. The truck and operator were part of a contracted utility crew that was doing underground work at the business. All parties are cooperating with the Police Department, and the incident remains under investigation. 


Lafayette County Sheriff

On January 9:

● 10:26 a.m. Shullsburg Fire responded to STH 11 in the City for a one vehicle accident. A deputy and Shullsburg Police assisted. Smith Jacques, 37, Smokie, IL was traveling on STH 11 when he jackknifed his semi. Jacques was uninjured and was cited for Traveling too Fast for Conditions. His semi was towed from the scene.

● 12:06 p.m. A deputy responded to STH 78, Blanchard Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 12:15 p.m. Darlington Fire and Lafayette County EMS responded to STH 81, Darlington Township for a one vehicle rollover. Triten J Lancaster, 18, Darlington was traveling westbound in a 2004 Ford when he started to slide. Lancaster then over-corrected and slid into the ditch, striking the embankment and overturning. Lancaster and a passenger, Noah H Kraus, 18, Darlington received minor injuries and denied EMS. His vehicle was towed from the scene. Lancaster was cited for Too Fast for Conditions and Failure to Maintain Control.

● 1:28 p.m. A deputy responded to STH 11, Benton Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 2:10 p.m. A deputy responded to STH 11, Wayne Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 2:45 p.m. Deputies responded to Furnace Hill RD, Willow Springs Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 3:21 p.m. A deputy responded to CTH XX, Belmont Township for a traffic hazard.

● 3:24 p.m. A deputy responded to STH 81, Argyle Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 4:07 p.m. A deputy responded to Roaster RD, Benton Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 4:36 p.m. Apple River Fire and Shullsburg EMS responded to CTH P, Monticello Township for a one vehicle rollover. Carlos Gomez Montoya, 28, Darlington was traveling northbound on CTH P in a 2005 Chrysler when he lost control and went into the ditch and rolled, coming to rest on its wheels. Gomez Montoya denied EMS and his vehicle was towed from the scene with disabling damage. Gomez Montoya was cited for No Insurance and Operating without a Valid Driver’s License.

● 5:13 p.m. A deputy responded to STH 81, Seymour Township for a two vehicle accident. Donald J Shireman, 38, Cuba City was traveling eastbound on STH 81 in a 2008 Freightliner when it was struck by a 2016 Chevrolet that was being operated by Nathan R Swiggum, 35, Soldiers Grove traveling westbound. Both parties were uninjured and Swiggum’s vehicle was towed from the scene with disabling damage and Shireman’s vehicle was driven from the scene.

● 5:36 p.m. A deputy responded to CTH F, Willow Springs Township for a vehicle in the ditch.

● 7:44 p.m. A deputy responded to USH 151, Belmont Township for a vehicle in the ditch. Arda Gunay, 23, Madison was cited for No Insurance.

On January 10:

● 6:39 a.m. Deputies responded to STH 81, Darlington Township for a vehicle in the ditch. 

● 7:24 a.m. A deputy responded to CTH F, Willow Springs Township for a disabled vehicle.

● 8:20 a.m. Mineral Point Fire Department and Mineral Point EMS responded to CTH O, Kendall Township for a one vehicle accident. Cody L Dalle-Ave, 20, Germantown lost control of his vehicle, went off the road, and hit a pole. Dalle-Ave’s 1999 Chevrolet received disabling damage and was towed from the scene. A deputy assisted on scene.

● 7:35 p.m. Cynthia L Miller, 67, Monroe reported striking a deer on W Milwaukee ST, Village of Argyle. No injuries were reported. Miller’s 2022 Ford received minor damage and was driven from the scene.

● 8:59 p.m. A deputy responded to STH 11, Shullsburg Township for a vehicle in the ditch.


Green County Sheriff

On January 27:

● At 1:30 p.m., Deputies along with Dane County Sheriff’s Office and Brooklyn Fire Department responded to the N9600 block of Union Road, in the Town of Brooklyn for a single vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by Steven S. Harvancik, 63 of Brooklyn, was traveling southbound, when he reportedly fell asleep. The vehicle then left the roadway and collided with a utility pole. Harvancik and his passengers reported no injuries, were wearing their seatbelts, and the airbags did not deploy. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Investigation resulted in Harvancik being cited for Fail To Control Vehicle. Harvancik was released pending court.

● At 3:32 p.m., Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traveling at 92 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone, in the W5300 block of State Highway 11, in the Town of Monroe. Investigation resulted in the operator, Koty M. Diaz, 31 of Janesville, being cited for Speeding, Operating After Revocation (due to alcohol), and Electronic Device Visible to Driver. Diaz was released pending court.

On January 30:

● At 1:44 p.m., Deputies responded to the N6400 block of STH 104, in the Town of Albany, for a reported single vehicle crash.  The driver, Robert L. McBride, 52, of Janesville, advised he was traveling west on STH 59 approaching the intersection with STH 104, when he traveled through the intersection, collided with a snow fence, then traveled into a field.  McBride reported that he was not injured and wearing his seatbelt.  McBride’s vehicle sustained disabling damage to the front end, with no airbag deployment, and was towed from the scene. McBride was later cited for Inattentive Driving and released with a future court date. 

On February 2:

● At 1:30 p.m., Deputies responded to the 2800 block of 6th Street, in the City of Monroe, to assist Department of Correction Agents. Investigation resulted in Charles E. Jaeger, 25 of Monroe being arrested for a probation violation. Jaeger was incarcerated at the Green County Jail pending court.
