Leo J. Ganshirt age 95 of Monroe, WI, formerly of Gratiot, WI, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. He was born May 19, 1915 in Gratiot, WI, the son of John and Mary (Cullen) Ganshirt. Leo graduated from Gratiot High School in 1933. He lived and farmed on the home farm in Gratiot all of his life. Leo was united in marriage to Helen Farrey on November 10, 1967 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gratiot. He remained extremely dedicated to his wife during her stay at Shullsburg Home in Shullsburg, WI. He worked at Micro Switch in Warren, IL, for a number of years. In May of 2000 he moved to Country Care in Monroe.

Leo is survived by two stepchildren: JoAnn (Louie) Lange of Benton, WI, and Bob (Rochelle) Farrey of Florida; many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Rosemary Ganshirt of Houston, TX; one brother-in-law: David McKenzie, Sr. of Lake City, MN, and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Helen in June of 2000; three brothers: Cletus, Joseph, and Harold Ganshirt; one sister: Margaret Rose McKenzie; two nephews; and one niece.

Leo was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gratiot. He was a true animal lover and had a special love for horses while on the farm. Leo also loved dogs and considered Patches and Mollie his own kids while living at Country Care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 5685 Main Street Gratiot, WI, with Rev. David Wanish officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in rural Gratiot. A visitation will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. The O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg, WI, is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
