Lawrence L. Raymer, age 90 of Monroe, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Harbor House in Monroe where he has resided the past two years.

Lawrence was born August 24, 1917 in Jefferson Township, Green County, Wisconsin, the son of Wade and Magdalena (Stuckey) Raymer. He graduated from Monroe High School and served in the U.S. Army, 10th Combat Engineers, from 1941 until 1944. He participated in the Allied invasion of North Africa (Operation Torch) in November, 1942.

Lawrence and Inez L. Pfund were married on June 14, 1946 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe. They farmed in Jefferson Township until moving into Monroe in 1984.

Lawrence was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe American Legion Zilmer Riley Post #84, N.R.A., Monroe (later Green County) Rifle Club, and attended Willow Aces Inc. Deer Camp in Oneida County for 60 years.

Survivors include a son, George (Sue) Raymer of Freeport, IL; a daughter, Virginia (Verne) Nortman of Monroe; four grandchildren, Michelle (Rocky) Joy, Linda (Greg) Howard, Mike Nortman, and Andrea Nortman; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Andrew Joy; and a step-great-grandson, Ryan Joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Inez, on March 22, 1992; and a sister, Edna Raymer.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, April 25, 2008, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Reverend William "Mike" Heath of St. John's United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will be held at St. John's UCC following the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Lawrence's name for Monroe Clinic Hospice and American Cancer Society. Lawrence was a loving father, grandfather, and a doting great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
