Lawrence D. Wunschel, age 67 of Brooklyn, WI, died Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Oregon Manor following a two year battle with brain cancer. Lawrence was born October 12, 1941 in Freeport, IL, the son of Nellis G. and Marie M. (Ostrander) Wunschel. He graduated from Juda High School in 1960 and married Dorothy Miller on January 5, 1963 in Monroe.
They farmed in the Juda and Monticello areas before retiring and moving to Brooklyn in 2003.
Lawrence also drove school bus for the New Glarus and Monticello districts for several years and following his retirement he was employed at Wisconsin Farm Auction Service.
He served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1960 until 1964 and was a member of the Monroe Moose Lodge #754.
He enjoyed sports especially playing, coaching, and umpiring softball.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wunschel of Brooklyn; three children, Brenda Wunschel of West Allis, L. Dwayne (Karen) of Menomonee Falls, and Steven (Debbie) of Oconomowoc; five grandchildren, Kylee, Kelci, Trevor, Payton, and Jared Wunschel; his mother, Marie Wunschel of Monroe; a sister, Helen Behring of Orangeville, IL; five brothers, Bob (Nancy) of Juda, Walter S. of Janesville, William (Astrid), Richard (Marcia), all of Monroe, and Donald (Jennifer) of Juda; three God children, Randy Behring, Amy King, and Jennifer Greil. He was preceded in death by his father and two nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Private family services will be held on Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Lawrence's name.
