Lawrence A. "Doc" Waelti age 87 of Monroe, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe. Lawrence was born May 16, 1924 in Monroe, the son of Christ and Mary Ruth (Sharer) Waelti.

He was a graduate of Juda High School and married Clara L. Whitehead on November 26, 1955 at St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe. Together they shared their lives with many foster children.

Lawrence worked in construction, owned and managed various bars and restaurants in Wisconsin and Illinois, and worked for St. Clare Hospital and Bauman's Ace Hardware until retiring.

He was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church and the Freeport Moose Lodge and Eagles Club.

He is survived by a son, Cyril (Judy) Waelti; a step-daughter, Phyllis Martin, all of Monroe; five grandchildren, Jamie (Jed) Strait, Tony Waelti, Nic Waelti, Dan (Tina) Martin and Roberta Martin; four great grandchildren; one great- great granddaughter; a sister, Norbetta Wyss of Eau Claire; a brother, Ambrose (Leah) Waelti of Monroe; and two sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara on July 1, 2006; four brothers, Cyril, Aloysius, Vincent, and C. Thomas Waelti; and a sister, Rita Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Father Larry Bakke, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe.
