LaVerne L. Owens age 89 of Monroe, Wisconsin formerly of Albany, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Aster Retirement Center. She was born August 15, 1923 at Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Emil and Charlotte (Poltrock) Erickson, graduated from Kelvin Park High School, and Chicago Teachers College.
LaVerne married John "Jack" Owens on June 25, 1944 at Austin Texas. LaVerne taught school for 25 years in the Chicago Suburbs, worked with Meals on Wheels, Albany Senior Center, and was a former member of NEA.
Surviving are daughters, Sherry (John) Hlavachek of Albany & Nancy (Jack) Beschta of Oregon; sister, Elaine Krzcminski of Verona; grandchildren, Shane (Jennifer) Hlavachek of Albany, Ty (Becky) Hlavachek of Big Lake, MN, Kurt (Kristina) Krueger of Evansville, & Craig (Shannon) Krueger of Albany, 8 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren & step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and husband.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive & N. 18th Avenue in Monroe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. William McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Albany, WI.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials to Aster Retirement Community, Albany Community Scholarship Fund, Monroe Clinic Hospice, or Albertson Memorial Library in LaVerne's memory would be appreciated by the family.
