JANESVILLE - Kathryn Ruth Jorenby, age 88, passed away after a brief illness at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, the Epiphany of our Lord. Katty was featured as "Member of the Month" for January at the Janesville Senior Activity Center. Following is an excerpt from an interview she gave about her life. "Katty was born and raised in Magnolia Township which is outside of Evansville on March 20, 1927. She grew up on a dairy farm with her five brothers and sisters. Her parents, Albert and Lena (Machler) Elmer, were immigrants from Switzerland. She met her husband, Norris Jorenby, at Turner Hall in Madison at a dance. They were married for 50 years and they loved to dance the polka and ride bikes. In one summer, they biked 1,500 miles. Norris passed away on Feb. 4, 2001. Up until 2 weeks ago, Katty was very busy with church and Senior Center activities. At Peace Lutheran Church, she was involved with knitting club, the Ladies Aid, Bible Readers, a lunch group, and the church Angel tree. She was a member of Ethel's Quilters in Evansville for over 20 years. At the Senior Center, she enjoyed the exercise group, the knitting group, scrap booking, dulcimer class, and other special events. She always made Sunday dinner complete with homemade pie! Katty also wrote poetry and enjoyed entering projects at the Walworth County Fair."

She is survived by her 2 children, Bruce Jorenby and Donna Herzfeldt both of Janesville; brother, Walter Elmer of Albany; and many nieces and nephews. Katty was preceded in death by her husband, Norris; 3 sisters: Rose, Bertha and Helen; and brother, Albert.
