John "Jack" Richard Calder, age 85, of Green Bay, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born in Monroe, WI on April 19, 1928, son of the late, John C. and Cecelia Mae (Jones) Calder. Jack attended Monroe Public Schools and graduated in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1946 and was assigned to the 20th Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division and spent 13 months in Korea. Jack was honorably discharged in January 1948.
In 1952, Jack graduated from UW Platteville with a BS Degree in Industrial Education and later received his Masters Degree from UW Stout. On June 11, 1968, Jack was united in marriage to Phyllis Jarnick.
Jack taught Industrial Arts Education for 36 years, starting in Ripon Public Schools for 16 of those years before coming to Green Bay and teaching at Preble, Edison Junior High and East High School.
Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was an Usher for many years. He also belonged to the Retired Men's Club, Secretary of the Green Bay/Brown County Prostate Cancer Support Group, 50-year member and Past Master of Prairie View Lodge #95, F and AM, Ripon, Secretary-Treasurer of Northeast Wisconsin Daylite Lodge #360, F and AM, member of Warren Chapter #8 R.A.M., Warren Council #13, Palestine Commandery #20, Scottish Rite Valley of Green Bay, Beja Shrine Temple of Green Bay, Green Bay Shrine Club. Jack was a lifetime member of the George Washington National Masonic Memorial Association. He was a Mason for 65 years.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis, Green Bay; son, David W. (Lonna M.) Calder, Green Bay; sister, Jane LeGault, Grand Rapids, MI; sister-in-law, Joyce Glebke, Weyauwega, as well as other family and friends.
Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Lynn Calder.
Services were held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Green Bay. A Masonic service followed. Inurnment will be held at Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh.
