John A. "Chick" Schroeder, 72, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, August 9, 2008 in Beloit Memorial Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by his family.
He was born March 24, 1936 in Cashton, WI, the son of John and Gertrude Marx Schroeder. Chick was a 1954 graduate of Cashton High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Chick married Grace "Ginger" Reindl on October 10, 1964 in St. Peters Catholic Church, South Beloit, IL.
Chick was employed by Beloit Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 1999. He was currently working for Homecare Pharmacy. Chick was a member of the Beloit Corporation Quarter Century Club. In his hay days he played on numerous softball leagues throwing the first no hitter at the King of Diamonds. He enjoyed golfing and football. Chick was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Ginger Schroeder of Beloit, WI; two children, Tim (fiancé, Sue Gratz) Schroeder of Monroe, WI, and Tonya (William) Magill of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Sophia Grace and Natalie Elise; step grandsons, Will, Zach, Ben and Scott; brothers and sisters, Art (Mary) Schroeder of Newport, MN, Clarence (Lorraine) Schroeder of Cashton, WI, Marian Arentz of LaCrosse, WI, Cletus (Rita) Schroeder of Oshkosh, WI, and Clara Mae (Larry) Roth of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Caddy Schroeder of Cashton, WI; special family friend, Marcella Weber of South Beloit, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Sylvester and Arnold.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2008 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, WI, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a Scripture service at 4:45 p.m.
