Johanna M. Stuckey, age 86 of Monroe, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Azura Memory Care, Monroe. Johanna was born on October 11, 1929 in Monticello, the daughter of Gottfried and Johanna Waelchli. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1947 and attended Green County Normal School. She taught rural school for 4 years before her marriage to Eugene C. Stuckey on May 22, 1954 in Monroe. Johanna and Eugene farmed in Sylvester Township for many years until moving into Monroe. She was a member of the Juda Zion United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers of Green County, Monroe Garden Club, and the Women of the Moose. Johanna loved her flowers, was a great cook, and enjoyed bowling.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Stuckey of Monroe; three children, Lillian (Brian) Mendenhall of Denver, CO, Cheryl (Joel) Tertin of Monroe, and Ted (Lucy) Stuckey of Juda; four grandchildren, Jesse (JaNessa) Tertin, Lindsay (Paul) Rydzewski, and Dakota and Skyler Stuckey; two great granddaughters, Rylie and Paige Rydzewski; her twin brother, Henry (Darlene) Waelchli of Monroe; sisters-in-law, Gert Waelchli of Monticello, and Marjorie Waelchli of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill and John Waelchli and a brother in infancy; and two sisters, Mary Waelchli and Rose (Dick) Jaeger.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Zion United Methodist Church in Juda with Pastor Vicki Brantmeyer officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Juda. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 20, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. A memorial fund will be established in Johanna's name.
