LENA, IL - Jerome "Jerry" H. Wedige, age 71, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on March 11, 1936 in Lafayette County, WI to Herman and Victoria (Sutton) Wedige. He married Ila June Ebbings on November 6, 1954 in Rockford, IL. He worked 16 years at Amrock, then managed an Electrolux store in Freeport, and later worked at Kelly Springfield for 19 years until retirement. Jerry was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lena, the Knights of Columbus, Wisconsin State Auxillary Southern District. He also volunteered at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Jerry enjoyed cooking, candymaking, and was a die hard Packers and Cubs fan.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Michelle (Larry) Clark of Lena, Kevin (Karen) of Freeport, John (Lisa) of Blanchardville, WI and Paul (Sherry) of Lena; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mary Hying of Platteville, WI, Elenor (Jack) McGinnis of Monroe, WI and Jane Bruun of Cuba City, WI; 2 brothers, Melvin (Carmen) Wedige of San Antonio, Texas and Eugene (Barbara) Wedige of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Herman Wedige Jr., "Bud" Wedige; 3 sisters, Katherine Boatman, Sister Victoria Wedige and Wilma Gentry.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lena.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena where a rosary service will be led by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Lena. Officiating will be Father Francis Adedara.
A memorial has been established for the Knights of Columbus in support of the mentally handicapped.
