Janis Kay Larson, 74, of Freeport, IL, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013 at Lena Living Center in Lena. She was born May 24, 1939 in Monroe, WI, daughter of the late Adrian and Verla (Painter) Babler. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1957, where she enjoyed playing percussion in the band. A recipient of the Gnagi scholarship, she later attended UW-Madison and graduated with a degree in Home Economics Education. Janis married Gerald Larson July 29, 1961 in Monroe. She began her career teaching home economics but later found her niche in interior design. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, sharing her artistic talents with others, and entertaining. She was an active volunteer at the Freeport PADS Homeless Shelter. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and the Freeport Home Economics Club. Surviving Janis are: her husband of 52 years, Jerry; three children, Jodi (Chris) Tansey of Kyle, TX, Jill Domino of Freeport, IL, Geoffrey (Leigh) Larson of New Glarus, WI; sister, Sandra (Paul) Weishoff, Tucson, AZ; brother-in-law, Duane (Nancy) Larson, Winter Haven, FL; nine grandchildren; one niece and three nephews. A memorial service will be held at 5 PM Tuesday November 26, 2013 at Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. John Wesley Lee officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 PM until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Faith United Methodist Church, Freeport, IL.
