Homer Clayton Hendrickson, age 86 of Blanchardville, died on Sunday evening, December 13, 2009 at the New Glarus Home in New Glarus. He was born on December 2, 1923 in rural Argyle to Alvin and Merle (Corbin) Hendrickson. Homer's mother died in an auto accident when he was just 6 years old. At that time he moved to stay with his grandparents, Martin and Julia Hendrickson in the Argyle-Blanchardville area. He attended rural schools, including the Einerson and Biggs schools. Homer grew up on his grandparents farm and worked with them until he moved off to work as a hired man for several area farmers. He was married on November 26, 1945 in the Adams Lutheran Church to Avis Gilbertson. He and Avis started renting farms and working together after their marriage. In 1968 they purchased what is currently the family home farm in rural Blanchardville where they lived and farmed until 2006 when they moved into Blanchardville. He was a life-long member of the Adams Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, and volunteered as church janitor for many years. He served on the Forward school board. He loved the outdoors, farming, cutting wood, spending time with his family, and especially taking his grandchildren fishing. He also loved taking drives and looking for wildlife.
