Herbert T. Johnson, age 96, died on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at his home. He was born on July 30, 1914 in his grandparents home, the son of Walter A. and Lydia (Trachsel) Johnson. He was a graduate of Monroe High School, attended Carroll College and completed pre-law at the University of Wisconsin. Herb received a Doctor of Law from the University of Wisconsin and was admitted to practice law in the State and Federal Courts. He joined the law firm of Burmeister & Snodgrass in June of 1938 and later formed partnership with Rudolph P. Regez. He was acting District Attorney and Corporation Counsel for Green County from 1943 until the end of World War II and was an investigative and trial lawyer for General Casualty Insurance Co. and other insurance companies in the southwest part of the State.

Herbert married Edna V. Goecks on December 3, 1938, they were together until 1971, when Edna became terminally ill and died in that year. Herbert later married Dorothy M. Brunkow on June 2, 1973.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, serving on the trustee boards, a charter member of the Monroe Rotary Club, former member and president of the Monroe Board of Education. Herb enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, camping, wood-working, photography, music and working on his computer. He had a great sense of humor and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Herbert is survived by his sons; Michael H. (Ann) Johnson, William W. (Veronica) Johnson, and a special friend, Pauline Deyo, whom Herb and his wife, Dorothy regarded as their granddaughter. He is predeceased by both of his wives; son, Richard M. Johnson; and sister, Kathryn Duchow.

Private graveside services will precede the memorial service.

The Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home with Rev. Gretchen Sylvester officiating.
