Henry O. Korn

Henry O. Korn, age 79, of Belmont, WI, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011, at his home. He was born May 3, 1932, in Gratiot Township in Lafayette County, WI, the son of Henry and Harriet (Hawkinson) Korn. Henry graduated from Gratiot High School in 1950. He lived in rural Gratiot until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1951, where he was an office manager in Okinawa until his honorable discharge in 1953. Following his return he was united in marriage to Alice Rogers on December 19, 1953 at Gratiot Primitive Methodist Church. Henry and Alice farmed in Gratiot Township for 14 years. In 1969, he began working for Lafayette County Highway Department until retiring in December of 1994. Henry then operated South Wayne Recycling for 12 years, retiring in June of 2006 due to ill health and moved to Belmont.

Henry is survived by his wife: Alice at home; two children: Randall (Rita) Korn of Runnells, IA, and Barbara Jean (Robert) Kuhle of Monroe, WI; eight grandchildren: Peter Wells, Rebecca Wells-Hille, Sarah and Miranda Korn, Adam Kuhle; Sarah Kuhle-Koeppen, Amanda Kuhle-Ohlrich, and Jill Pettiecord; three great-grandchildren: Zena Wells, Samuel Logan Hille, and Alana Korn-Ungs; and one brother: Lawrence (Joanne) Korn of Beloit, WI. He was preceded in death by his father: Henry in 1980; his mother: Harriet in 1999; one daughter: Joyce Wells in 1985; one granddaughter: Hannah Roberta Kuhle in infancy; two brothers: David and Leonard Korn; and one sister: Joyce Korn.

Henry was a life member of Gratiot VFW Post #9692 and Belmont American Legion Post #453. He served on the Lafayette County Board for eight years. Henry loved spending time with his family, playing cards with friends. He was an avid outdoorsman especially hunting and fishing. Henry enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Evangelical Free Church, 5605 Main Street in Gratiot, WI, with Rev. Penny Thomsen of Hospice of Dubuque officiating. Burial will be in Gratiot M.E. Cemetery with military rites to be accorded by Belmont American Legion Post #453. A visitation will be held Monday, November 21, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 508 Main Street in Darlington, WI.
