Harold C. Meinert
Harold C. Meinert, 96, formerly of Davis and Rock City, passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016 at Woods Crossing in Brodhead, Wisconsin. Firstborn of Clarence and Rebecca (Tielkemeier) Meinert on the family farm in rural Davis, Illinois, on April 11, 1920. He married Helen vonAllmen Blum on November 30, 1963 and they built a home on the family farm, which he lived within five miles of until he was 95. After many years of farming, he was a milk hauler for Springbrook Cheese and school bus driver for Dakota School District.
He enjoyed listening to music, watching the Chicago Cubs and going to parades, especially Cheese Days. Harold enjoyed seeing the country by traveling a distance or just around the neighborhood.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rock Grove until its closing. Since then he was a member of Rock City United Methodist.
He is survived by daughter, Marlisa Rose Gunderson, son-in-law Michael Gunderson, who he loved as his own, youngest sister, Ruth (Robert) Stilson, of Englewood, Florida, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen, and sisters, Irene (Alvin) Toelke and Verda Meinert.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at Rock City United Methodist Church on Friday, December 2 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to time of service. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, Wisconsin. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
