Gottlieb Siegfried Brandli, Sr., age 88, of Monroe, WI died on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 10, 1929 in Wolfhausen, Canton Zurich, Switzerland, the son of Franz Xaver and Hulda (Oberholzer) Brandli. He attended school in Switzerland until eighth grade; he then did a four-year apprenticeship in woodworking. On December 6, 1954 he immigrated to Monroe, Wisconsin. Gottlieb was a longtime cabinet maker. He worked for Kuhne Construction for 30 years before establishing Gottlieb Brandli Swiss Cabinetry. He married Gertrude Messmer in January of 1956; she preceded him in death in 1999. He was later united in marriage to Lucille "Lu" Paull in August of 2004.
He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church, a charter member of Monroe Swiss Singers, New Glarus Yodel Club and Mannerchor, and New World Swiss Club. He also established the Monroe Carving Club.
He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, watching his grandchildren's activities, and laughing with family and friends while enjoying "a toddy for my body".
He is survived by his wife, Lucille "Lu" Paull-Brandli of Monroe; children, Deborah (Fred) Rufener of Newburgh, IN, Gottlieb S. (Nicole) Brandli, Jr. of Monroe, Kurt (Chandra) Brandli of Loves Park, IL; and Monika (Mario) Trafficante, Jr. of Sussex, WI; step-children, Brian (Marcia) Paull and Leann (Mark) Paull-Anderson both of Verona; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Hermann Brandli of Chur, Switzerland, Vreni Burke-Brandli and Anton (Ursi) Brandli both of Scherzlingen, Switzerland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gertrude Messmer-Brandli, brothers, Franz, Edelbert, and Gregor, and sister, Marie Brandli-Napflin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr. and 18th Ave., in Monroe from 4:00-8 P.M.
A memorial fund is being established in Gottlieb's name.
