MONROE/NEW GLARUS - Gertrude Ursula Elmer, age 90 passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. She was born on August 23, 1923 in Green County, WI on the Zimmerman farm to her parents Jacob and Maria (Schachtler) Zimmerman. Gertrude attended the Farmer's Grove School. On November 14, 1947 she was united in marriage to Wilfred Elmer at the New Glarus Parsonage. Gerty and her husband farmed on Old Highway 69 outside New Glarus until his passing in 1967. She then moved to Monroe and worked at Green County Pre-Pak for many years. Gerty was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.
Gertrude is survived by her brother Walter (Ruth) Zimmerman of New Glarus, WI and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilfred, sisters Meta Mueller Hilda Baertschi, and Marie Thoman, and a special nephew Keith Baertschi.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. William Wineke officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.
