JANESVILLE - Gertrude M. Noble, age 91, a longtime Janesville resident, passed away Saturday evening, September 12, 2009 at St. Elizabeth's Home, Janesville, where she has resided the past several years. She was born January 31, 1918 in Oneco, Stephenson County, IL, and was the daughter of the late Henry and Martha Brunkow. She was married to John J. Ruch in July, 1935 in Monroe. She later married John D. Noble in November, 1968 in Minnesota. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1994.
Gert was a farm wife during her first marriage, and helped work the farm and tend to her family. Gert later worked for many years as a cook, and had attended Blackhawk Technical College, receiving a Certificate in Food Service Supervision. She cooked and supervised the kitchen staff at various restaurants and facilities in Monroe, Brodhead, and Janesville, including St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, and the V.F.W. in Janesville. She lived for over 26 years at Golden Acres in Janesville, and had been a faithful member of the Women of The Moose for 37 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society at St. Elizabeth's, and loved country music, chocolate, playing cards, dancing, and also playing darts. She loved and adored her family, and was always known for being ready to lend a helping hand to anybody who needed help.
She is survived by her 5 children, Beatrice Wiss, of Cheyenne, WY, John (Sandy) Ruch, of Bellview, NE, Beverly (Randy) Sargent, of Monroe, WI, Dick (Shirley) Noble, of Janesville, and Donna (Mark) Schoening, of Johnson Creek, WI; 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and by 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shelly Lillge, and her son-in-law, Leonard Wiss.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH-ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, JANESVILLE, 15 N. Jackson St., with Rev. Naomi Garber officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
