Gerald E. Swiggum age 94 of Monroe, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Aster Retirement Community. He was born on February 27, 1918 in Jefferson Township, the son of Neil and Iva (Gordee) Swiggum. Gerald and Frieda Stark were married on June 24, 1939 in Browntown. He graduated from Monroe High School.

Gerald worked for the Borden Co. in Browntown for 19 yrs, was a General Life Insurance Company agent for 8 yrs. and later worked for Alphorn Ford for 20 yrs. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Browntown, Monroe Lions Club, Smith Lodge # 31 F&A Masons, Zor Shrine, Green County Shrine Club, Monroe Country Club, Browntown School Clerk, Browntown Village Clerk, Browntown Fire Department, and the Green County Board, past Grand Marshall of Monroe Cheese Days.

He is survived by his wife Frieda of Monroe; son, James (Judy) Swiggum of Allen TX; daughters, Joan Arvedson of Elm Grove, Janet Schneider of Randelman, NC; and 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sister Norma Doherty, brothers, Glen, Virgil, Clifford, Francis, 2 grandsons and 1 great-grandson.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and N. 18th Ave. in Monroe with Rev. William McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow in Saucerman Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Masonic Service at 6:30 P.M.

A Memorial Fund is being established in Gerald's memory.
