Genevieve S. Franklin, age 87 of Monroe, died Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Monroe Clinic Hospital following a brief illness.

Genevieve was born October 22, 1920 in Platteville, the daughter of Thomas and Theresa (Welty) Shannon. She graduated from Darlington High School in 1938 and attended Madison Secretarial School. She worked for the Army Finance at Truax Field in Madison during World War II and later was employed by Gisholt Machine Company for several years.

She married George F. Anderson on Nov. 22, 1946. He was killed in Korea in November 1951. She married Clarence H. "Ben" Franklin on Feb. 14, 1964 and he preceded her in death on July 16, 2007.

She was a member of the Monroe Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and a former member of the Monroe Country Club and Alpine Curling Club. Genevieve was an avid reader, bird watcher, and loved to cook. She also enjoyed needlework, crocheting, cross-stitch, camping, and fishing.

She has resided at Community Living Home Options of Monroe since January, 2008.

Survivors include two daughters, Aleta (Richard Price) Anderson of Janesville, Iowa, and Hawley Robinson of Monroe; a step-son, Daniel (Jo) Franklin of Aurora, CO; a step-daughter, Sandra (James) Wilson of Warrenton, VA; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Philip Stephenson of the Monroe Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses will officiate with a luncheon immediately following at the Monroe V.F.W. Post #2312. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
