Gary Ruch of Statesville, North Carolina, formerly of Monroe, died unexpectedly on November 21, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Gary is survived by his wife of 40 years, Margery (Bernet) Ruch. Other survivors include Benjamin and Caroline Ruch of Greensboro, North Carolina and Braden and Amanda Ruch of Charlotte, North Carolina as well as two grandchildren, Holden Ruch, age 12 and Alexandra Ruch, age 6, both of Greensboro, NC.
Gary was born in Mornoe, Wisconsin on October 21, 1949, the son of Charles and Eileen Ruch. He graduated from Monroe High School in June of 1967 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He served in the United States Coast Guard for four years and was stationed on the US Coast Guard Cutter Mendota in Wilmington, North Carolina for two years and on the Admiral's Staff for the Fifth Coast Guard District in Portsmouth, Virginia for two years.
Gary enjoyed a very successful career in the Textile Business over a 30 year span which included the position of CEO/President of Island Textiles, Island Screenworks and Island Industries, Inc. He founded Sourcing Connection, Inc. in 1999 and served as President and CEO and was the driving force of this business until 2007 at which time he closed the business. In 2008 Gary became an Integrated Account Manager for Ikon Office Solutions, Inc.
A small private ceremony was attended by the immediate family overlooking Gary's beautiful and well cared for lawn. Dr. Richard Odom of Summerfield Baptist Church officiated and read two meaningful eulogies by both sons - Benjamin and Braden - expressing what their father meant to them and what they learned from him.
Family, friends and business associates gathered at the home of Ben and Caroline Ruch, on Wednesday, November 25th to honor and celebrate Gary's life.
Gary was an avid golfer, boat enthusiast and fisherman. Golfing with his sons and spending weekends on the boat at Lake Norman with his wife were his favorite past times.
Additional survivors include Larry and Carol Ruch and family, Monroe, Heinz and Charleen Ruch and family, New Glarus and Jeff and Judy Ruch and family of Minnesota.
